Rishikesh and Haridwar make an accessible introduction to India’s living wellness traditions. This itinerary leaves deliberate space between activities: the aim is not to collect sights, but to slow down, learn respectfully and return rested.

Suggested itinerary

Day 1 — Arrive in Haridwar

Settle into your accommodation, take an orientation walk through the old town and reach Har Ki Pauri before dusk. The evening Ganga aarti can be crowded; agree on a meeting point and keep the group together.

Day 2 — Haridwar at a slower pace

Begin with a quiet riverside walk. Visit a local temple or ashram only where visitors are welcomed, then keep the afternoon open for rest. A guide can explain local customs, river safety and the meaning of the rituals without turning worship into a performance.

Day 3 — Transfer to Rishikesh

Travel to Rishikesh and check in near the quieter upper reaches of town. Choose an introductory yoga session led by a qualified teacher and finish with a short guided meditation.

Day 4 — Practice and nature

Start with breathwork and gentle movement. Walk a manageable section beside the Ganga, visit an ashram or learning centre by prior arrangement, and keep an unstructured hour for journalling or silence.

Day 5 — Closing practice and departure

Use the morning for a final group practice and reflection. Depart after breakfast, allowing extra time for road traffic.

How to make the journey work

  • Tell NFTCI about mobility, dietary and medical needs before planning begins.
  • Ask for verified teacher credentials and a written daily schedule.
  • Treat meditation and yoga as learning experiences, not medical treatment.
  • Avoid bathing in fast currents and follow local safety instructions.
  • Dress modestly in temples and ashrams; photography may be restricted.

Official context and further reading
