This route centres respect, learning and seva. It pairs Amritsar’s major institutions with a slower extension to Anandpur Sahib, avoiding the common mistake of treating sacred spaces as quick photo stops.

Suggested itinerary

Day 1 — Arrive in Amritsar

Settle in and attend an orientation on gurdwara etiquette: covered heads, clean feet, modest dress and respectful photography. Make an unhurried first visit to the Golden Temple complex.

Day 2 — Sacred space and service

Return at a quieter hour and learn about the community kitchen. Participation in seva should follow the institution’s guidance and never interfere with operations. Keep the afternoon for rest or local food heritage.

Day 3 — History and remembrance

Visit Jallianwala Bagh and a museum or interpretation centre. A trained educator can help groups engage with difficult history thoughtfully.

Day 4 — Anandpur Sahib

Travel to Anandpur Sahib for its gurdwaras and Sikh heritage institutions. Confirm museum opening days and allow a full day rather than a rushed return.

Day 5 — Departure

Use the morning for reflection or a final community visit, then depart with margin for road or rail schedules.

Group planning notes

  • Ask before photographing people in worship.
  • Keep appropriate head coverings available for all travellers.
  • Dietary planning is simple for vegetarian groups, but allergies still need notice.
  • Major religious dates require early accommodation and transport planning.
